The Reebok company is a global clothing apparel and equipment manufacturer that began in the 1890s when Joseph William Foster founded the J.W. Foster and Sons company and began making shoes by hand for some of the top runners in the world. Their running shoes were even worn in the 1924 Summer Games.

In 1958, two of Joseph W. Foster's grandsons started the companion company, Reebok, named after the fast and nimble African gazelle. In 1979, a partner in a sporting goods distribution company by the name of Paul Fireman saw Reebok's shoes at a trade show and landed the North American distribution license for Reebok and introduced the American public to three running shoes that year at $60 per pair (the most expensive running shoes at that time in North America.)

In 1982, Reebok's released the first athletic shoe specifically designed for women, called the Freestyle. Then, in the early 1990s, Reebok began creating shoes and other sports apparel for football, baseball, soccer, and other sports. In 2002, the National Football League (NFL) awarded Reebok a long term, exclusive agreement to manufacture, market and sell NFL licensed t-shirts, jersey, hoodies, hats, and other clothing for all 32 NFL football teams. Since then, Reebok has expanded to manfacture and sell licensed merchandise for the NBA, WNBA and other major sports leagues, as well as creating a consumer brand featuring some of the music industry's most successful hip-hop and rap artists.
